Many of you have seen news stories reporting that the New York City Police Department monitored the web sites of Muslim Student Associations at several colleges and universities, both within and outside of New York City. The reports also allege that the NYPD engaged in surveillance of Muslim students from many of these institutions.

We have been informed that our colleagues in TC's TESOL Japan program safely exited their building. TC's Office of International Student Services is referring concerned individuals to Google's Person Finder -- http://japan.person-finder.appspot.com -- to help locate relatives, friends or colleagues who may be affected by the recent events.

A Letter From The President
Since its beginnings, Teachers College has defined "education" in the broadest sense, as the experiences that occur not only in classrooms but also in communities, churches, streets, homes and all the other settings of daily life. That view is perhaps best expressed in the thought of the College's most iconic figure, John Dewey, who argued that education is life and vice versa, and that learning is a process through which the student creates meaning by trying to make sense of his or her environment.
